Joseph Gemmete, M.D.

CLINICAL INTERESTS:

Carotid stenting, cerebrovascular ischemic disease, stroke, intracranial stenosis, carotid stenosis and
head/neck vascular malformations, imaging and endovascular interventions in transplant recipients.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Endovascular treatment of carotid stenosis, intracranial stenosis, stroke, cerebral aneurysms and
intracranial and extracranial head and neck arteriovenous malformations.

Dr. Joseph J Gemmete is the Director of Interventional Neuroradiology division and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan. He is also the co-director of multidisciplinary cerebrovascular center.

He completed his radiology residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine/Detroit medical center and completed his fellowship in Neuroradiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard School of Medicine. Because of his unique interest in imaging and treatment of vascular disorders, he did a vascular interventional radiology fellowship at University of Tennessee and devoted another year for Neurointerventional Fellowship at the University of Michigan.

He has unique distinction of having dual qualifications in Vascular and Neurovascular interventions. His clinical interests include carotid and intracranial atherosclerotic disease, intracranial and head and neck vascular malformations, stroke treatment and uterine artery embolizations. He has been instrumental in the establishment of state of the art multidisciplinary comprehensive cerebrovascular center, first of its kind in the state of Michigan.

Dr. Gemmete has been actively involved in clinical research and his research publications have mostly focussed on Carotid stenting, cerebrovascular ischemic disease and also UAE and endovascular interventions in transplant recipients.
